Seward County Community College/Area Technical School recently hosted the Southwest Future Farmers of America contests where over 150 students competed in four contests.
In the Food Science contest, winners included Daniel LaMaster, Garden City, first; Danae’ Heckman, Ulysses, second; Chris Davis, Scott City, third; Matt Wehkamp, Cimarron, fourth; Luke Minnix, Scott City, fifth; Carolina Urbina, Ulysses, sixth; Craig Bohl, Ulysses, seventh; Clay Mulligan, Scott City, eighth; Gilbert Rupp, Garden City, ninth; and Katlin Morgan, Deerfield, tenth. In the team division, Ulysses was first, followed by Scott City, Deerfield, Garden City, Cimarron, Jetmore and Hugoton.
In the Entomology contest, the top 10 winners were all from Holcomb. Brent Komlosfske was first; Eli Mangels, second; Trey Welch, third; Luke Conley, fourth; Logan Donovan, fifth; Salvador Aldana, sixth; Max Ramsey, seventh; Shane Bennett, eighth; Ryan Roth, ninth; and Bryce Elliott, tenth. Overall Holcomb was first, followed by Hugoton, Dodge City, Satanta, and Jetmore.
In the Agribusiness Management contest, Kashly Schweer, Garden City was first; Dakota Thomas, Garden City, second; Brian Green, Holcomb, third; Trevor Owens, Holcomb, fourth; Caitlin Matile, Holcomb, fifth; Lindy Bilberry, Garden City, sixth; Jakob Stegman, Holcomb, seventh; Garrett Ochs, Jetmore, eighth; Lori Harshbarger, Holcomb, ninth; and Levi Koehn, Holcomb, tenth. Team results placed Garden City, first; Holcomb, second; Jetmore A, third; Ulysses, fourth; Satanta, fifth; Dodge City sixth; and Jetmore B, seventh.
In Agronomy, Charlie Ellis, Ness City, was first; Brandon DuCharme, Holcomb, second; Matt Blaksly, Ulysses, third; Ashlee Dinges, Ness City, fourth; Nick Herrmann, Holcomb, fifth; John Salter, Holcomb, sixth; Brendan Thomas, Holcomb, seventh; Chance Conley, Holcomb, eighth; Clayton Johnson, Ness City, ninth; and Dylan Hawkins, Holcomb, tenth. Team results were Holcomb, first; Ness City, second; Ulysses, third; Garden City, fourth; and Hugoton, fifth.
