The Seward County Community College volleyball team has completed their month on the road. The Lady Saints went 2-2 at the Midland College Classic this weekend with victories against New Mexico Military Institute (30-26, 30-26, 31-29) and Temple College (30-24, 30-17, 31-29) and two losses against Alvin Community College (18-30, 30-24, 17-30, 30-26, 11-15) and No. 16 Northeastern Colorado Junior College (14-30, 25-30, 21-30). Seward County moves to 14-15 overall this season and remains 1-1 in the Jayhawk West Conference and 1-1 in Division competition. In the month of September, the Lady Saints played 22-of-23 matches away from the Green House in Liberal.

Seward County battled in their first match against Alvin C.C. SCCC fell hard in game’s one and three but bounced back by winning game-two, 30-24, and game-four, 30-26. In the fifth and deciding game, Alvin was just too much knocking off the Lady Saints 11-15. Jennifer Noel was the Lady Saints top player against Alvin with 12 kills, six blocks and one defensive dig.

After dropping a match earlier this season to New Mexico Military Institute (3-10), SCCC knew what to expect and wanted revenge against the Lady Broncos. The Lady Saints dominated the match and were led by several players including Janete Ferreira (12 kills, 10 digs), Jennifer Noel (12 kills, four blocks, two aces), Katy Troutman (22 digs), Jenny Schwier (19 digs, seven kills) and Juliana Nascimento (seven kills, five blocks).

Seward County finished day-one competition with a 1-1 record, and started single-elimination bracket play against Temple College on Saturday morning.

The Lady Saints came out on fire Saturday morning defeating Temple College (5-16 overall) in a three-game sweep. Ferreira led the way with 15 kills, Noel added six kills, four blocks and an ace. Freshman setter, Alex Droogsma, collected a team-high 33 assists.

Seward County completed their Midland Classic competition in a three-game loss against nationally-ranked Northeastern Colorado J.C. The Lady Saints were led by defensive standout, Katy Troutman, who tallied a team-high 19 digs. Additionally, Droogsma led the team with 26 assists.

The Lady Saints will be back in Jayhawk West Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 4 hosting eighth place Dodge City Community College (2-21 overall, 0-4 Jayhawk West) for a 6:30 p.m. match at the Green House.
