The Seward County Community College volleyball team dropped their two finals matches of the Wyo-Braska Shootout yesterday against No. 13 Northeastern Colorado J.C. (14-3) and Central Wyoming College (2-7). Seward County lost their opening match on Saturday to N.E. Colorado in three-games (16-30, 26-30, 19-30) and couldn’t find a way to win a five-game match against Central Wyoming College (31-33, 13-30, 30-26, 30-27, 12-15). SCCC completed competition at the three-day Wyo-Braska Shootout with a 3-4 record. The Lady Saints on the season fall to 11-13 overall and remain 0-1 in the Jayhawk West Conference.

Seward County ran up against a tough opponent on Saturday morning, as N.E. Colorado has spent the first three weeks of the regular season ranked in the NJCAA Top 20. The Lady Saints dropped all three games against the Lady Plainsmen with their closest match coming in a 26-30 loss in game-two.

The Lady Saints were led by Janete Ferreira (seven kills), Jennifer Noel (seven kills), Trisha Keahey (five kills, four blocks), Katy Troutman (10 digs) and Alex Droogsma (19 assists). Seward County is now 0-5 against nationally ranked teams this season.

In the final match, Seward County dropped a heart-breaking game-one, 31-33, and then fell hard 13-30 in game-two. The Lady Saints battled back in games three and four winning 30-26 and 30-27 respectively. In game-five, SCCC lost the match in a 12-15 final score.

Ferreira once again led the way with 22 kills and was joined in double figures in the kill column with Noel (17 kills, three blocks) and Keahey (16 kills, four blocks). Troutman was strong defensively with a team-high 30 digs and Droogsma was efficient passing the ball with 57 assists.

Seward County will continue their road trip on Wednesday, September 27, traveling to Cloud County Community College (9-6 overall, 3-0 in the Jayhawk West) for a 6:30 p.m. conference match. The end of next week, Seward County will travel to Midland College to compete in the Midland College Tournament. The end of September will complete 22-of-23 matches that Seward County has played away from the Green House this month.
