The Seward County Community College volleyball team began day-two of the Wyo-Braska Shootout this morning against No. 17 Western Wyoming Community College. The Lady Saints inconsistency continued as they dropped their match in four games to the nationally ranked Western Wyoming Mustangs. SCCC was defeated 17-30, 30-27, 24-30 and 29-31 in their first of two matches today at Torrington, Wyoming. The Lady Saints move their shootout record to 2-2 overall with three matches remaining in the shootout. SCCC drops to 10-11 overall this season and Western Wyoming improves to 19-3 on the season.

The Lady Saints fought back in game-two, after losing game-one 17-30. SCCC lead during the early part of game-two before Western Wyoming came fighting back. The score was knotted up at 22-22, before the Lady Saints pulled away for the 30-27 victory. Western Wyoming took game-three 24-30, and was able to hold on to the match in game-four to defeat the Lady Saints 29-31.

Janete Ferreira led the Lady Saints with 17 kills and completed a double/double with 11 digs. Freshman libero, Katy Troutman, collected a team-high’s in digs (39) and service aces (3). Freshman, Jenny Schwier, also helped carry the load with 16 digs.

Freshman setter, Alex Droogsma totaled 39 assists and five blocks, while Jennifer Noel posted 11 kills and six blocks at the net.

Seward County’s final match on Friday will be at 2:00 p.m. (MT) against Eastern Wyoming College (1-11).
