The Seward County Community College Lady Saints volleyball team completed competition in the first day at the Wyo-Braska Shootout with a win against Laramie County Community College. Seward County split their first two matches on Thursday before defeating Laramie County 30-23, 32-30, 26-30 and 30-27 on Thursday night in Scottsbluff, Neb. Seward County improves to 10-10 overall this season and is now 2-1 in the Wyo-Braska Shootout. Laramie County drops to 2-6 overall this season.

The Lady Saints were led by freshman setter, Alex Droogsma, who posted 54 assists (13.5/game), 10 digs and five blocks. Droogsma now has collected five double/double performances this season. Janete Ferreira led all players with 22 kills (5.5/game), and Katy Troutman led the team with 32 defensive digs.

Freshman, Jennifer Noel, continued her strong shootout with 11 kills and seven blocks. Freshman outside hitter, Jenny Schwier, collected another double/double with 11 kills and 16 digs.

Seward County right side hitter, Juliana Nascimento, also had a strong match with nine kills, 11 digs, five blocks and she tallied the only SCCC service ace.

The Lady Saints continue play in the Wyo-Braska Shootout on Friday, but will travel to the other playing site in Torrington, Wyoming. Seward County’s two matches on Friday will be against No. 17 Western Wyoming C.C. (18-3) at 10:00 a.m. (MT) and Eastern Wyoming College (1-11) at 2:00 p.m.
