Two Seward County Lady Saints Tennis players found themselves ranked in the NJCAA’s top 40 this week as its annual ITA rankings were released. Fanny Benincasa was ranked the 10th best player in the country and the 2nd best player in the region after a stellar fall season while Ekaterina Gabashvili was ranked 37th in the nation and 5th in the region. The duo was also ranked as the 10th best doubles team in the nation and the top combo in Region VI. As a team the Lady Saints were tabbed 8th best and 2nd in the region coming off of yet another trip to the national tournament last season.
The Seward County Men’s team has been ranked 13th in the nation and 3rd in Region VI with a stable of solid players ready to get things going in the spring. Six Saints players found themselves ranked in the top 100 as Carlos Souza was Seward’s top ranked player at #40 while Fernando Soni followed shortly behind at #45. Christian Romanzini was tabbed 53rd best and Eduardo Munoz (75), Stefan Ignjatovic (79), and Levan Gabashvili (82) were also picked in the top 100. Two Seward doubles teams were voted in the top 40 as Soni and Souza were picked 32nd and Munoz and Romanzini were picked on their heels at 36th. Inside the region the Saints had six players picked in the top 20 with Souza, Soni, and Romanzini leading the pack at #7, #10, and #12 and Munoz, Ignjatovic, and Gabashvili filling in right behind them at #16, #17, and #18. The six were also noted in the region’s doubles rankings as Soni and Souza were picked 6th, Munoz and Romanzini 7th, and Ignjatovic and Gabashvili tabbed 9th.
