After winning their opening match at the Wyo-Braska Shootout, the Seward County Community College volleyball team lost their second match of the day to Casper College, 30-27, 30-25, 21-30, 28-30 and 14-16. The Lady Saints have posted a 1-1 record at the shootout after defeating Sheridan College in a three-game sweep earlier on Thursday. SCCC falls to 9-10 overall this season and Casper improves to 12-10 overall this year. Seward County’s final match on Thursday will be played against Laramie County C.C. (2-5) at 10:00 p.m.

Seward County was able to jump out to the early two game lead, but after being knocked off 21-30 in game-three, SCCC wasn’t able to recover, losing by two points in game-four (28-30) and dropping the fifth and final game 14-16.

The Lady Saints received another phenomenal performance from freshman middle hitter, Jennifer Noel, who posted her first career double/double (10 blocks/14 kills) and recorded career-high in blocks. Sophomore, Janete Ferreira, was the only other Lady Saints player to notch a double/double with a team-high 24 kills and 10 digs. In addition, Ferreira notched five blocks.

In the five-game match, Seward County had strong outings from Jenny Schwier (11 kills, 23 digs, one block), Katy Troutman (team-high 37 digs), Alex Droogsma (53 assists, career-high 25 digs), Dana McLaren (15 digs) and Juliana Nascimento (10 kills, two blocks).
