The Seward County Community College volleyball team opened play at the Wyo-Braksa Shootout today against Sheridan College, in Scottsbluff, Neb. The Lady Saints defeated Sheridan College 30-25, 30-26 and 30-20, sweeping Sheridan in route to their opening match victory at the three-day shootout. Sheridan College falls to 1-11 overall this season, Seward County improves to 9-9 overall and remains 0-1 in the Jayhawk West Conference.

The Lady Saints were led in game-one by sophomore outside hitter, Janete Ferreira, who pounded in seven kills to help give the Lady Saints a 30-25 game-one victory. Ferreira collected a team-high 14 kills for the entire three-game match.

In game-two, the Lady Saints took an early lead, but had to come from behind to defeat Sheridan 30-26. Jennifer Noel stepped in for the Lady Saints with three timely kills and several blocks to help pace SCCC in the second game.

Seward County closed out the match in game-three with a standout performance from freshman outside hitter, Jenny Schwier. The Lady Saints started game-three trailing Sheridan 1-6. After Schwier came through with two service aces and three kills the Lady Saints were able to hold the lead to win game-three and the match.

Noel finished the match with nine kills and Schwier added 12 kills and three aces.

Seward County will be back in action at the Wyo-Braska Shootout on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. against Casper College (11-10) and their final match on Thursday will be against Laramie County C.C. (2-5) at 8:00 p.m.
