The Seward County Community College women’s tennis team competed at the Wichita Collegiate Tennis Tournament last weekend. The Lady Saints went a combined 10-13 in singles and doubles competition. Two SCCC players earned tournament titles while competing in their first collegiate tournaments. The Wichita Collegiate Tournament is designed to have junior college and four-year tennis program compete against each other in every flight category.

Freshmen, Hollie Davis and Portia Gent each won their respective Flight’s championship last weekend. Davis, a freshman from Wellington, Texas, won the Flight E championship with a perfect 4-0 mark. Davis defeated Oklahoma Baptist University, Cowley College, Emporia State University and Kansas Newman University. Gent won the Flight F championship with match victories over Kansas Newman, Oklahoma Baptist, Cowley and another Kansas Newman player in the championship. Davis and Gent went the entire tournament without losing a single set.

No. 1 singles player, Amina Abdullah, went 1-2, and No. 2 singles player Uthala Abdullah went 1-2 in the Flight A category. Sophomore, Hanna Hepp, a No. 3 singles player from Liberal, went 0-2 and freshmen Erica Herrera and Sanela Dejanovic each went 0-2 in singles competition.

Seward County posted a 0-3 record in doubles with the Abdullah sister’s losing to Oklahoma Christian and Hepp/Herrera dropping their match to Cowley College and Dejanovic/Davis losing their match.

The Lady Saints continue their fall season this weekend, September 15-16 at the Bethany College Tournament in Lindsborg, Kan.
