For the second time in the first month of the NJCAA volleyball season Seward County middle hitter Sheina Fernandes has been named the Region VI Player of the Week. The freshman from Porto Alegre, Brazil had a solid week for the Lady Saints against some stiff competition. In a three set sweep over former #11 Pratt on Wednesday Fernandes recorded 8 kills on 10 attempts with just one error to dial up a .700 hitting percentage. The freshman stepped up against solid competition at the Pizza Hut Invitational this weekend with her best game coming in a 13 kill 12 block performance against 12th ranked Northeastern on Friday night. She finished the week hitting .341 and averaging over a block per game. Fernandes and the Lady Saints are back home to take on Barton County in a crucial Jayhawk West Conference matchup for both teams Saturday.
