The NJCAA has announced that five Seward County basketball players have been named to the 2008-09 NJCAA All-Region VI basketball teams. Rachel Barnes and Amanda Pierson were named to the team after combining to be the best inside combo in the league. Barnes receives first team honors after averaging 13.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.6 steals a game as a freshman in 2008-09. Pierson shot 51% from the field on the year as she scored 12 points, grabbed 6.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocked shots per game for the 28-6 Lady Saints. Thijin Moses, Marcus James, and Tony Smith were all named to the All-Region VI Menís Team after leading Seward to a 23-9 record and finishing in 3rd place in the Jayhawk West Conference. Moses was third on the team in scoring with 13.1 points a game and led the team with 66 three-pointers made. James showed flashes of dominance as a freshman in 2008-09, finishing the season with 12.3 points and 5.4 rebounds a game while shooting 52% from the field on the year. Smith had his ups and downs in 2008-09 but finished second on the team in scoring with 14 points a game while also dishing out nearly 6 assists a game and grabbing 3.7 rebounds.
