After a very successful 35 win season thus far, the Seward County Lady Saints head to the Region VI Tournament with a conference high five players named to the Jayhawk West All-Conference Team. The highest honor for an individual player in the conference was also received by a Lady Saint as Jelena Simic was named the conference and the regionís most valuable player. Simic has blistered opponents with 660 kills this season, currently leading the nation by 27 over her next closest competitor. Her 442 digs also rank her in the top 30 in the nation. With Simic getting first team accolades, four other Lady Saints received second team honors. Setter and team captain Chelsea Myers, middle hitter LaKendra Sanders, outside hitter Lindsey Miller, and libero Amanda Savage all found their way onto the Jayhawk All-Conference second team. Myers, a sophomore from Salina currently has 1,079 assists for the Lady Saints and is third on the team in digs with 398. She has started and played in every single set for the Lady Saints this season and is most certainly the backbone of the Lady Saints attack. LaKendra Sanders finds her way onto the All-Conference team in her first season with the Lady Saints thanks to 343 kills and dominating play at the net with 173 blocks, good for 6th in the nation. Lindsey Miller has teamed up with Simic to be one of the best 1-2 outside hitter combos in the conference. Her well rounded play has landed her 3rd on the team in kills (327), 5th in aces (25), 1st in service percentage (.950), 2nd in serve/receive percentage (.937), and 3rd in digs/game (2.60). Freshman Amanda Savage was the only libero in the conference to get chosen to the All-Conference squad and it is well deserved. Savage leads the Lady Saints with 3.64 digs/game after missing the first 12 contests of the season due to injury. She has also been a viable asset for the Lady Saints in the passing department making just 36 errors in 572 chances over the course of the year.
