Hopefully if you were at the Seward County Lady Saints Volleyball match yesterday evening against Garden City, you didn’t blink. Because if you did, the swift 61 minute match might have passed you by. In dominating form, the Lady Saints disposed of the Broncbusters and earned their way into the Final Four, double-elimination, Region VI Tournament in Hutchinson this weekend.

Things have really started to click as of late for the Lady Saints and nothing changed Tuesday night in the Greenhouse. Seward County had an amazing team kill efficiency of .507 and didn’t commit a serve receive error on the evening. Jelena Simic had arguably her best match in her storied career at Seward County putting away 23 kills without making an error and totaling up an unheard of .821 kill percentage. Jenna Ginest did the most of her 13 opportunities, registering 10 kills with just one error, good for a .692 clip. Ginest also recorded six points for the Lady Saints via service ace, a team high. Chelsea Myers continued her solid play for the Lady Saints in their newfound 5-1 system successfully converting 33 of 62 set attempts. Amanda Savage did her libero job perfectly Tuesday night, leading the team with 12 digs as well as notching a perfect 7 for 7 in the serve receive category. Tamren Hensley had one of her better nights of her freshman campaign tallying nine digs and serving a team high 18 times without an error. Lindsey Miller recorded a team high three blocks and chipped in with four kills on offense.

“Hopefully we are starting to click at the right time of the year right now” coach Bert Luallen said. “Whenever you can hit over .500 as a team for a match that is something special. Our beginning of the season goals are right at our fingertips now, all we have to do is play the way we are capable of and let the rest fall in place this weekend.”

Next up for the Lady Saints is a trip eastward to Hutchinson this weekend where they will play in the Region VI Tournament with a bid to the National Tournament on the line for the winner. Seward County will match up against the winner of tonight’s Pratt/Colby match at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon. The winner of that game will go on to play the winner of the Hutchinson vs. Barton County/Dodge City match at 6:00 with the loser playing again at 4:00 against the loser of that match.
