The Board of Trustees of Seward County Community College/Area Technical School met in special session Monday evening, Oct. 20, to select an individual to fill the vacant trustee position previously held by Leo Riley. The Board met with two individuals who had applied to fill the vacancy, Rick Brenneman and Dustin Ormiston.
The Board interviewed both applicants and selected Dustin Ormiston to fill the vacant position on the Board. Dustin will be sworn in to the Board on Nov. 3, 2008 to serve the remaining term on the board through June 30, 2009.
“I have always been involved in the college and this is just another way to support the college and this community,” Ormiston said. “The college has an extremely good board and the longevity of its members demonstrates that. I look forward to continuing what is already a good institution.”
Dustin is a certified public accountant, a graduate of Fort Hays State University and a shareholder with Hay Rice & Associates accounting firm in Liberal. He is involved with many college activities, has been an adjunct instructor for the accounting classes at SCCC/ATS and he and his family serve as Booster Parents for the Saints athletic department. Dustin is a member of the executive board for the Liberal Chamber of Commerce and the Early Risers Kiwanis club. He is a member of the American institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and past president of the Southwest Kansas Chapter of Certified Public Accountants.
“We were pleased to have two very qualified individuals apply who are involved with our college and the community,” said Board Chair Jo Ann Sharp. “This was a difficult decision since both individuals serve our community and the college well. We are pleased that Dustin will be a trustee and look forward to his serving on the Board.”
“As an employer in this community, it is in the best interest of this community to support the college and help it grow,” Ormiston said.
