After a week in which she posted 13 blocks, 9 of which were solo, and 19 kills in just two matches, Seward County Lady Saints middle hitter LaKendra Sanders has been named NJCAA Region VI Player of the Week.
Sanders, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, helped lead the Lady Saints to two conference victories last week to help run their conference record to 6-1. Through Wednesday nights win against Garden City, Sanders currently has 47 solo blocks, and 118 blocks overall, good for 7th in the nation. Sanders has also stepped up her offensive play as of late and is currently third on the team in kills behind All-American Jelena Simic and fellow Texan outside hitter Lindsey Miller.
"Everything is starting to click with LaKendra" Head Coach Bert Luallen said. "This isn't the last time you are going to see her win this award in her career here."
