The Seward County Community College softball team finished its season on Saturday with a 10-3 loss to Barton County Community College in the NJCAA D-I Region VI Tournament loserís bracket at the Two Rivers Sports Complex in Wichita. It is the first time since 2004 that Seward County hasnít advanced to the Region VI Tournament championship game as Barton County picked up its first win over SCCC this season. Seward County ends its season with a 39-19 overall record, while Barton County (25-36) advanced to the Region VI championship game where they were defeated 18-3 (five innings) by tournament champion Butler Community College (48-6). Butler will represent the Region VI in the NJCAA National Tournament in Plant City, Fla.

Barton County put the game away scoring five runs in the first inning off Lady Saintsí ace pitcher Courtney Auger. The Lady Cougars led-off the game with a solo-home run from Brittney Allen to center field, and followed with a grand slam by Whitney Boeh to take a 5-0 lead.

Seward County outhit Barton County, 12-10, but stranded six runners on base in the loss. The Lady Saintsí offense scored two runs in the third inning when sophomore Lindsay Garchinski homered to center field and sophomore Jennifer Collins later scored on a RBI single by freshman Cara Russell. SCCC scored its final run of the contest in the fourth inning as Alicia Gonzales singled to reach base and later scored on a throwing error by BCCC center fielder Roxanne Longoria.

Auger lasted only two innings allowing five hits, eight runs and four walks with one strikeout. It was the only outing this season where Auger didnítí throw a complete game. The freshman right-handed All-American candidate finished her standout season with a 21-9 record, and with a school-record 1.54 earned run average and 293 strikeouts in 186.2 innings pitched.

Garchinski (2-for-4) and Russell (3-for-3) were the only Seward County players with a RBI in the game. Sophomores Jennifer Collins (2-for-3) and Rachel Adaza (2-for-3) each ended their Lady Saint careers with a multi-hit game.
