In the final game of the regular season, the Seward County Community College baseball team dropped Dodge City Community College 21-9 in a non-conference nine-inning game Tuesday evening at Cavalier Field in Dodge City. The Saints hit six home runs and played 19 players in a final tune-up game before the Region VI First-Round Playoff Series beginning Saturday afternoon. The Jayhawk West Conference champion Saints (38-16) will host Jayhawk East No. 8 seed Neosho County Community College (22-28) in a first-round best 2-of-3 series starting Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at Brent Gould Field. Seward County and Neosho County will be scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the “if necessary” game scheduled for Sunday. All games played in the post-season are nine-inning contests.

The Saints unloaded on Dodge City scoring in eight-of-nine innings during the two hour, 45 minute non-conference affair. The Saints scored early with a two-run home run from sophomore catcher David Masters to put the Saints in the lead 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

The Saints collected 23 base hits in the game including a two RBI double from Masters in the second inning and a solo home run to right field by freshman outfielder Caleb Nine.

Dodge City’s offense also put up runs scoring two runs apiece in the second, third and fourth innings to trail 6-11 after four innings of play.
