Seward County Community College head basketball coach Bryan Zollinger has been named to the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association JUCO Menís Basketball Coach of the Year. In Zollingerís first season with the Saints he led them to a 32-6 overall record and to a Jayhawk West title and Region VI Tournament championship. The Saints went on to finish in third-place at the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson with a 3-1 national tournament record. Zollingerís debut season at his alma mater tied for the schoolís best post-season finish (3rd Place Ė NJCAA Tournament) and tied for the second most wins (32) in a single-season in Saintsí history. Zollinger will receive the KBCA Coach of the Year award as part of the KBCA All-Star Game Festivities on Aug. 6, in Topeka at Washburn University.

The KBCA selects a Coach of the Year for four-year colleges, two-year colleges, high school and junior high male and female sports. KBCA officers, staff and representatives present their selections for the awards while winners are presented after a vote is completed. All head coaches in the state of Kansas are eligible for the award and only one head coach is selected as their respective levels Coach of the Year.

Zollinger returned to Seward County after spending 10 seasons as the head coach at the College of Eastern Utah. Zollinger is now in his third stint with the Saints after playing for SCCC in 1984-1986 and then joining the Saintsí coaching staff as an assistant coach from 1994-1996. He has now won a Region VI Tournament title in all three capacities with the Seward County menís basketball program.

In 2007-2008, the Saints captured the programís fifth conference title with a 13-3 Jayhawk league record, marking only the second outright conference championship in SCCC history. Seward County finished the season winning 19 of its last 21 games overall. The Saints collected their first Region VI Tournament championship in a decade with victories over Labette C.C. (101-59), Garden City C.C. (63-60), Cloud County C.C. (69-54) and Cowley College (71-61, O.T.)

Zollinger has also been named the 2008 NJCAA D-I Region VI Coach of the Year and the Jayhawk West Conference Coach of the Year.
