Seward County Community College baseball coach Galen McSpadden is closing in on another coaching milestone needing just four wins to reach career win No. 900 in his 27-year tenure as head coach of the Saints. McSpadden currently owns a overall record of 896-487 (.648). The Saints enter this weekend’s four-game series at Dodge City Community College in first-place of the Jayhawk Western Division with a 13-3 league record, having swept their last two opponents in the middle of their 11-game winning streak. Seward County travels to play the Conquistadors April 5-6 at Cavalier Field in Dodge City for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday and Sunday.

McSpadden’s next career milestone will put him in select company among NJCAA baseball coaching legends. After collecting his 900th victory, McSpadden will become the 11th active head coach, and the 25th head coach all-time in NJCAA history to reach the 900 win plateau.

He will also join Allen County Community College head coach Val McLean (1,020-580 – 31 seasons) as the only coaches in Region VI history to collect 900 career wins.

After becoming head coach of the Saints in 1982, McSpadden has averaged 34 wins per season during his career, which includes five 40-win seasons and two 50-win campaigns. McSpadden has captured 11 Jayhawk West Conference titles, and he has coached a Western Division record 15 NJCAA All-Americans.
