The National Junior College Athletic Association announced today that Seward County Community College freshman Courtney Auger has been named the NJCAA Pitcher of the Week, for March 24-30. The 5-foot-8 Edmonton, Alberta native led the Lady Saints to a perfect record 6-0 record last week while going 4-0 with a 0.61 earned run average with 40 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. Her week was highlighted by breaking the Seward County single-game record with 18 strikeouts against Colby Community College in a nine-inning 4-0 victory at Colby. Auger becomes the eighth Seward County player in the program’s history to be named NJCAA Player/Pitcher of the week, and is the 10th all-time selection in SCCC softball history.

Auger began the week defeating Garden City Community College twice in a road doubleheader. Auger struck out 10 batters in the opener while pitching a seven-inning complete game allowing only two earned runs. She entered game two in relief where she collected the 7-6 victory.

Earlier this season, Auger posted a new school record with 17 strikeouts against Colby C.C. at Lady Saints Softball Field. Last week she broke her own single-game record with 18 strikeouts against Colby in a nine-inning performance allowing only three base hits and five walks in the 4-0 shutout.

The freshman standout finished the week with her second straight complete-game shutout in the Lady Saints 10-0 (five innings) victory over Cloud County C.C. Auger struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits in the final game of the week.

Auger is currently third in the NJCAA in strikeouts (183), and is 13-6 overall with a 1.46 ERA in a team-high 124.2 innings pitched. She has pitched in 22 games where she has recorded 18 complete games (18 starts) and six shutouts. Opposing batters are hitting just.188 against Auger this season.
