Seward County Community College lost its second straight menís tennis dual Saturday afternoon against No. 6 nationally-ranked Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan. The No. 8 Saints dropped a 2-7 match to the Tigers, as Cowley swept SCCC in doubles play, and won the top four singles competitions. Seward County picked up two wins in match play as Ivan Michelli and Charlie Salter each collected straight-set victories in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. The Tigers, who finished last season seventh at the NJCAA Tournament, also knocked off the Saints in their last dual on April 16, 2005 (2-7). Seward County is now 23-26 overall in total games played this season.

Michelli, a freshman from Sorocaba, Brazil, collected his third singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Bruce Maytabby. Michelli has also posted wins this year against Concordia College and Hutchinson C.C.

Salter dominated in his No. 6 singles victory over Boomer Saia, 6-1, 6-3. Salter improves to 3-2 overall this season in singles play.

Seward County dropped all three doubles matches, including narrow defeats in No. 1 doubles (6-8) and No. 3 doubles (8-9, 5-7).

The Saints are now 17-18 in singles play and 6-8 in doubles competition.

Seward County will be in action this Tuesday, March 1, traveling to Hutchinson Community College for a 1 p.m. dual with the Blue Dragons at the HCC Tennis Courts.
