Last season, the Odessa Wranglers came into the Greenhouse undefeated and suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Seward County Saints. This year, in the OC Sports Arena in the Lone Star State, the Wranglers returned the favor, dropping Seward 74-55 to give the Saints their first loss of the 2011 campaign. But, following the loss the Saints came back with a 63-54 win over New Mexico JC

It is hard to figure out if it is the paint that isn’t actually painted, the brown and yellow colored floor, or the tight confines of the Perryman Center in Garden City that has been hard for the Seward County Lady Saints to solve of late, but whatever it is, it struck again this weekend as the 10th ranked Lady Saints dropped their first two games of the 2011 season after holding second half leads in both contests.

For the second straight week, Seward County guard Kaheem Ransom has been named the KJCCC Player of the Week. However, this time Saints freshman picked up an even more lofty award to go with it as he was also picked as the NJCAA National Player of the Week, marking the first time a Seward player has won the award since 2007 when Theron Wilson won the award.

After passing a pair of tests last weekend in Florida at the Report Classic to move to 5-0 on the year, the #14 Seward County Lady Saints kept their straight a’s going this weekend in the Billy’s/Days Inn Classic in the Greenhouse as they throttled South Plains 74-44 Friday night and followed that up with a 71-50 win over Frank Phillips on Saturday night to hit the Thanksgiving break at a perfect 7-0.

Just in case you haven’t noticed yet, this year’s Seward County Saints team that prides itself on the defensive end of the floor, happens to be pretty talented on the offensive end of the floor as well and they proved that yet again this weekend as they came away with a 112-63 win on Friday against Redlands and a 93-61 win over Clarendon Saturday to finish a perfect 2-0 in the 2011 Billy’s/Days Inn Classic in the Greenhouse.

A hot commodity among Division I Baseball programs around the country, Seward County right-hander Gavin Glanz has made his decision for the 2012-2013 season and it will be to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he will join the Summit League Champions and Coach Rob Walton next season.

It was a rather quick and painless process. After an All-American freshman season, Seward County sophomore forward Ashlynn Knoll had a host of suitors from the next level. But, after just one official visit, the Lady Saints leader knew where she wanted to take her talents after her days in Liberal were done. Knoll made her decision official today as she signed her name on the dotted line to join the Kansas State Wildcats next season in Manhattan.

Beginning a 10 game stretch that Head Coach Toby Wynn considers “One of the toughest of my coaching career”, the Seward County Lady Saints came out of their first two battles smelling like a rose as they hammered the Defending Division II National Champion Monroe Lady Mustangs 86-63 Thursday and followed that up with a 62-56 win over Tallahassee on Friday in Florida to remain unbeaten on the 2011-2012 campaign.

Needless to say, to some observers, the jury was still out on the Seward County Saints after a pair of big opening weekend wins over Sterling JV and God’s Academy Prep. After this weekend’s Garden City Pepsi Classic though, that same jury should be able to render a little bit better of a decision after the Saints dismantled Division II National Tournament competitor Highland 98-59 on Friday and dumped 3-0 North Platte 78-61 on Saturday to move to 4-0 overall on the early season.
