Seward County Lady Saint sophomores-to-be Ashlynn Knoll and Kendra Spresser have been selected as 2 of the top 40 players in the country for next season and therefore have been invited to participate in the annual NJCAA All-Star Event in Pensacola, Florida in July.

After just one season in Seward County green and white, shortstop Jake Barrios will be moving on to play for one of the top Division 1 programs in the country. Barrios is headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he will proudly wear the purple and gold for the LSU Tigers next season.

It will be a game that many Seward County Saints players, coaches, and fans will have a hard time swallowing. The #7 Saints, playing as one of six teams remaining in the 2011 Juco World Series had leads of 5-0, 8-3, and 9-5 but could not hold on as their #16 counterparts, the Potomac State Catamounts put up crooked numbers in four of five innings through the middle innings of the game, all with two outs to come away with a 12-11 win to end the Saints season. Seward finishes in 6th place at the big dance but will forever have the “what if” stuck in their heads after the one run defeat.

Playing in conditions fit for Southwest Kansas, with a warm sunny day turned foggy by dust particles flying all around due to the 40 mph winds, the #7 Seward County Saints got a gutsy performance from sophomore right hander Paul Pulley on the mound and a 10 hit attack from their offense to come away with a 5-1 win against the #12 Southern Union State Bison Sunday afternoon at the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction.

Well, it started exactly how the Saints had pictured it but it certainly didn’t finish that way Saturday night at Suplezio Stadium in Grand Junction for Seward’s opening game of the Juco World Series against defending National Champion Iowa Western. The #7 Saints and the #13 Reivers took center stage on opening night under the bright lights of the historic stadium and with the eyes of nearly 10,000 fans on hand to see the game events unfold.

After reaching the NJCAA National Tournament yet again in 2011 the Seward County Saints Men’s Tennis team has a 15th place finish to boast about going into next year. The Saints finished the tournament with 15 points, just 1.5 points away from a 12th place finish after a 10th place finish at the 2010 tournament.
