After losing all five matchups with Clarendon last season, the Seward County Saints just about got even with the Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon in the Lone Star State as they won this year’s season series against them with a 5-3 win to wrap up the 2011 regular season. Seward’s Tyler Hill did it all for the Saints in the win, picking up 2 hits, 2 stolen bases, an RBI, and a save on the mound to close out the two run victory.

After taking home NJCAA Freshman of the Year in her first season in Liberal and leading her team back to the NJCAA National Tournament again in her sophomore campaign, Seward County Lady Saints tennis player Fanny Benincasa has signed her letter of intent for next year and she will be headed to Durham, North Carolina to play for the Eagles of North Carolina Central University.

One of the most highly anticipated decisions on the college basketball recruiting trail happened today as Seward County Saints point guard and NJCAA All-American made it official that he will be a Kansas State Wildcat next season. Jones who was heavily recruiting by major Division 1 teams from every conference coast to coast this season eventually decided to stay in Kansas and play for the ‘Cats over South Florida, Arizona State, and Houston.

After finishing 3rd at the Region VI Tournament last weekend, the Seward County Saints Tennis team is on their way to the NJCAA National Tournament with one of their deepest lineups in recent memory. The Saints had already punched their ticket after one day of competition but would make a push for the top spot in the region on day two before falling just short to Cowley and Johnson County who both finished 3 points ahead of the guys in green.

The Seward County Lady Saints Tennis team will be headed back to the desert this season after qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament for the 6th consecutive season with a 3rd place finish at last weekend’s Region VI Tournament. Lindy Kowalchuk led Seward with 6 total points on the weekend, winning her #6 singles bracket as well as her #3 doubles bracket with partner Marcela Abrantes while two other Lady Saints singles players and both of the other doubles pairs finished 2nd in the tournament.

Most the time when you see a team clinch a conference or division championship you will see them jumping up and down on the field after the game in celebration. Saturday afternoon the Seward County Saints clinched the Jayhawk West Championship and the #1 seed from the West for the upcoming Region VI Tournament while on the road at Pratt but there was no celebration other than their normal handshakes going on, as winning the conference title has been a thing of routine for the Saints who have now captured the crown in 9 of the past 11 seasons.

The Saints sophs would leave with a smile on their faces as Jose Gonzales earned the win on the mound and Tyler Hill starred at the plate with 5 RBI’s as Seward downed the Bulldogs 8-6 to move to 34-17 overall on the 2011 campaign.

After having their season ended last year by the Hutchinson Blue Dragons in the Region VI Championship game, the Seward County Saints took the turf at Brent Gould Field in Liberal this weekend with revenge on their mind. After a 7-3 game one win, the Saints would get walk off victories in the next three games, with a 10-9 win in game two, a 3-2 win in game three, before a 10-0 win in game four to put the icing on the cake from the weekend.

After winning the KJCCC Pitcher of the Week award for the seventh time in eight weeks on the 2011 softball season, KJCCC Commissioner Bryce Roderick might just have to think about changing the name of that award to the Sydney Cicchetti Award by season’s end.

The Seward County Lady Saints picked up wins in three of four games in this weekend’s BuCo Bash in El Dorado as they hammered Maple Woods and Eastern Oklahoma 8-1 and 12-1 on Saturday before dropping their only game of the weekend 5-0 to Crowder and then bouncing back to thump Johnson County 11-0 on Sunday to go over the 30 win mark for the seventh straight season.
