The Saints head into Jayhawk West Conference play after winning eight of their last nine games. Seward had the top record in the Region VI entering the final non-conference game of the season, and dropped to 12-2 with a 10 point loss against Lamar C.C. (65-55). Over the last 10 years the Saints have been one of the top programs in the Jayhawk West, winning two titles and finishing runner-up five times during that span. In the past two seasons the Saints havenít been as fortunate posting a 14-18 conference mark with two straight No. 7 western division seedings going into post-season play.

Seward County will play its final two non-conference games in San Diego, Calif., at the San Diego Classic, Dec. 28-29. The Lady Saints will take on University of Wisconsin-Waukesha at 6 p.m. on Dec. 28, and will then face the winner/loser of Cuyamaca/San Diego City College the following day. SCCC has lost three of its last four games and following a loss to Labette, they finish the non-conference 0-4 against Jayhawk East opponents. Seward County enters the Jayhawk West Conference season having won six of the last eight conference titles (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007).

The Seward County Community College menís basketball team had its eight game winning streak snapped with a 65-55 loss to Lamar Community College, on Saturday night in the Pizza Hut Classic at the Green House in Liberal. Lamarís bench out-scored the Saints 31-4, and the Runniní Lopes shot 9-for-18 from three-point territory to claim the non-conference victory in SCCCís final game before the start of conference play. The Saints were held to their lowest point total of the season while finishing the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 12-2 overall mark. Lamar improves to 10-2 on the season.

A day following a victory over No. 22 Northeastern Colorado, the Seward County Community College womenís basketball team dropped its final home non-conference game of the season against Labette Community College, 70-60, on Saturday night in the Pizza Hut Classic at the Green House in Liberal. Labette sophomore Dana Olsen had a standout performance leading all players with 30 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Cardinals out-scored Seward 41-29 in the second half, as the Lady Saints drop their fourth game to a Jayhawk East opponent this season. Seward County falls to 7-5 overall and the Lady Cardinals improve to a Eastern Division best 10-2 overall.

The Seward County Community College menís basketball team kept rolling Friday night in their opening game at the Pizza Hut Classic, with a 88-61 blowout victory over Brown Mackie College at the Green House in Liberal. The Saints never trailed and led by a double figure margin during the final 34 minutes of the game, while marking their eighth straight non-conference victory under first year head coach Bryan Zollinger. With just one non-conference game remaining in the 2007 portion of the season, Zollinger has guided the Saints to the best overall record in the 19 school Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with a 12-1 overall record (.923). Seward County drops the Lions to 6-7 overall this season.

For the second time in 14 days, the Seward County Community College womenís basketball team handed No. 22 Northeastern Colorado Junior College a loss. In the opening night of the Pizza Hut Classic, Seward County defeated NJC 72-59 at the Green House in Liberal. Earlier this season on Nov. 23, the Lady Saints handed NJC their first loss of the season. Fridayís result was the same, and the Northeastern Colorado Lady Plainsmen still have only one opponent on their schedule that they havenít beaten- Seward County. The Lady Saints led in over 38 minutes of the game and were led by sophomore Tegan Cunninghamís 19 points and freshman point guard Stephani Rhotenís 18 points and nine assists. Seward snaps a two-game losing streak with the victory and improve to 7-4 overall this season. NJC falls to 11-2 overall.

The Seward County Community College menís basketball team will host the Pizza Hut Classic, Dec. 7-8, at the Green House in Liberal. The Saints are coming off two victories last weekend at the Jayhawk Shootout which improves their overall record to 11-1 this season. SCCC currently owns the best overall mark in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Seward County has held opponents to a Jayhawk West low 58.7 points per game. With just two games remaining until Jayhawk West play, first year head coach Bryan Zollinger will prepare the Saints for two match-ups this weekend starting on Friday night against Brown Mackie College (6-6) and then on Saturday against Lamar Community College (9-2). Tip-off for both contests is scheduled for 8 p.m.

This season the Lady Saints (6-4) have taken on an unparalleled schedule that has included six nationally ranked opponents. The Seward County Community College menís basketball team shutdown Kansas City Kansas Community College in the second half while winning their seventh straight game on Saturday morning, 65-42, in Nellis Hall on the final day of the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. The Saints, who have held three teams to fewer than 43 points, outscored KCK 34-15 in the second half while cruising to their 11th victory this season. The Saints led the final 31 minutes of the game and were led by their frontcourt which scored 34 points. Seward County improves to 11-1 overall this season, and KCK drops its second straight game and is now 7-3 overall.

The Seward County Community College womenís basketball team dropped its second straight game at the Jayhawk Shootout with a 54-53 loss on Saturday afternoon against Independence Community College in Coffeyville at Nellis Hall. The Lady Pirates earned the victory shooting 54 percent in the second half and were able to edge SCCC by a point after the teams were tied (23-23) at halftime. Lady Saintsí sophomore Tegan Cunningham averaged 29 points in the two-day Jayhawk Shootout, and scored 25 points on Saturday afternoon. Seward County drops to 6-4 overall and the Lady Pirates improve 7-4 this season.

The No. 3 (D-II) nationally-ranked Johnson County Community College womenís basketball team defeated No. 12 Seward County Community College, 79-67 on Friday evening, giving SCCC its first loss at the Jayhawk Shootout in over nine years. Seward County entered this seasonís shootout with an 18-0 record dating back to 1998, but was dominated on Friday evening by the Lady Cavaliers in the opening day of the shootout at Nellis Hall in Coffeyville, Kan. In a game Seward County never led, sophomore All-American Tegan Cunningham tried to single-handedly keep the Lady Saints in the game recording a season-high 33 points and 13 rebounds in 37 minutes of action. Seward County falls to 6-3 overall this season and Johnson County improves to 6-2 overall.
