The National Junior College Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that Seward County Community College freshman Tegan Cunningham was named a Co-NJCAA Division I Womenís Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 3-9. Cunningham has now received national player of the week honors twice this season, making her the first athlete ever from SCCC in any sport to be named national player of the week twice during a season. Cunningham helped lead the No. 7 Seward County Lady Saints to a perfect 3-0 record with wins over Fort Scott C.C. (97-65), Northeastern Colorado (74-51) and Hastings College J.V. (91-59).

Seward County Community College alum Candi White, has been elevated to Interim Head Coach for the womenís basketball program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. White was promoted on Monday, Dec. 11 after UMKC coach Bo Overton announced his immediate resignation as head coach of the Kangaroo basketball program, to accept the General Manager and Head Coaching position with the Chicago Sky of the Womenís National Basketball Association. White, a 2000 graduate of SCCC was hired as an assistant coach at UMKC in 2004-2005, the position she held before being promoted to interim head coach.

The No. 7 Seward County Community College womenís basketball team kept rolling during their non-conference schedule with a 91-59 victory over Hastings J.V., on Saturday night at the Pizza Hut Classic in Liberal. Seward County continues to receive strong play from their team with every player scoring and eight players posting at least seven points. The Lady Saints also notched another win onto their 41 game non-conference winning streak that began three seasons ago. Lady Saints second year coach Toby Wynn is now a perfect 26-0 at the helm of Seward County in non-conference competition. Seward County improves to 12-0 overall this season.

The Seward County Community College menís basketball team dropped their second consecutive game this weekend losing 86-82 to Frank Phillips College Saturday night at the Green House. The Saints finished the Pizza Hut Classic with a 0-2 record after losing Friday night against Brown Mackie College. Also for the second consecutive night the Saints held a lead going into halftime before coming out behind in the final score. The Saints complete their non-conference schedule with a 9-4 overall record. Frank Phillips improves to 8-6 overall, after defeating Newman University J.V. and the Saints in the two-day classic at the Green House in Liberal.

The Seward County Community College menís basketball team didnít choose the right 20 minute period to go cold shooting the basketball. Not only did the Saints shoot only 34 percent from the field in the second half, they allowed Brown Mackie College to shoot 64 percent from the field, as the Lions came fighting back in the second half of Friday nightís game to defeat the Saints 99-89, in the opening night of the Pizza Hut Classic in Liberal at the Green House. Seward County led by as many as 16 points in the first-half, before Brown Mackie made their run to pick up a big road win. SCCC falls to 9-3 overall this season, and No. 8 (NJCAA D-II) Brown Mackie improves to 11-3 overall.

The Seward County Community College womenís basketball team improved their non-conference winning streak to 40 games on Friday evening, with a 74-51 victory over Northeastern Colorado Junior College at the Green House. The No. 7 ranked Lady Saints opened competition at home in the Pizza Hut Classic against the Plainswomen, who have now lost twice to SCCC this season. The Lady Saints used a total team effort while improving their perfect season to 11-0 overall. Northeastern Colorado falls to 10-3 overall this season with the loss.

The Lady Saints recently received a No. 7 NJCAA national ranking in the latest poll and they enter this weekend's classic with a 10-0 overall record. The Lady Saints picked up two victories last weekend at the Jayhawk Shootout defeating Highland C.C. (106-58) and Fort Scott C.C. (97-65). This weekend the Lady Saints will entertain Northeastern Colorado J.C. on Friday night and will take on Hastings College J.V. on Saturday night. SCCC will be in action both nights at 6 p.m. Free tickets to the Pizza Hut Classic will be available this week at the local Liberal Pizza Hut locations.

The Saints enter this weekend's competition with a 9-2 overall record after going 1-1 at the Jayhawk Shootout last weekend in Coffeyville, Kan. This weekend the Saints will play on Friday night against Brown Mackie College and on Saturday night verses Frank Phillips College. The Seward County Community College women's basketball team received a No. 7 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25 poll that was released today. This weeks poll is the third consecutive week during the regular-season SCCC has received a national ranking. Seward has collected rankings this season at No. 11 (Nov. 22), No. 8 (Nov. 26) and now moving up to No. 7 in the nation. Seward County capped off a stellar week with two victories at the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan., against Highland Community College (106-58) and Fort Scott Community College (97-65). The Lady Saints basketball program also has posted 39 consecutive non-conference wins, dating back to the end of the 2003-2004 non-conference schedule.

This Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Seward County Community College women's basketball game will be Chelsea Blackshear Night at the Green House. Blackshear, a 5-foot-9-inch sophomore guard from Levelland, Texas, will be the featured sophomore player on 100 posters that will be given away FREE at the Pizza Hut Classic. The Seward County Community College women's basketball team defeated Fort Scott Community College 97-65, on Saturday afternoon at the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. The Lady Saints tied the Jayhawk Shootout all-time record for most points in a two-game shootout with 203 points scored (106 vs. Highland on Sat.). The No. 8 ranked Lady Saints shot 59 percent (41-of-70) from the field and caused 21 Lady Greyhound turnovers in their 39th consecutive non-conference victory. Second year head coach Toby Wynn has guided SCCC to a 10-0 start this season and to a perfect 24-0 non-conference record over the past two seasons.

The Seward County Community College women's basketball team defeated Highland Community College 106-58, in the No. 8 Lady Saints (9-0 overall) opening game at the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. Seward County was led by sophomore guard, Taushelle Rushing, who scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range and 7-of-8 shooting from the free-throw line. Rushing also collected a career-high nine steals in the Lady Saints blowout over the Lady Scotties in the 9 a.m. game at Nellis East Gymnasium at Coffeyville Community College.

The Seward County Community College men's basketball team played a roller coaster contest against the Labette Community College Cardinals in their final game at the Jayhawk Shootout in Coffeyville, Kan. SCCC had a 14 point lead at halftime (38-24), but saw their lead evaporate early in the second half as Labette went on a 10-0 run to start the first half. Seward County battled back and went on an 18-0 run to secure the victory 73-61, at the Nellis Arena in Coffeyville. The Saints improve to 9-2 overall this season, while Labette falls to 6-4 overall.

The Seward County Community College men's basketball team lost their opening game at the Jayhawk Shootout to No. 11 Coffeyville Community College 82-62. The Red Ravens controlled the game on their home court from the opening tip-off as the Saints drop to 8-2 overall this season. Coffeyville (8-1 overall) ran off to an early 12-0 lead before the Saints collected their first points of the game. Coffeyville's victory earned head coach Jay Herkelman his 300th career victory in his tenure at Coffeyville C.C.
