Seward County Community College was an opportunity for Patricia (Rodriguez) Beer to gain a great and affordable education.
“Secretly. . . I did not want to leave my parents quite yet! I was unsure about what I wanted to do with ‘the rest of my life,’ and staying at Seward allowed me to gain more maturity before I went off to a big school.”

Seward County Community College’s Business & Industry Office has planned a number of summer short courses.
A paper clay workshop will be held from 12 noon-6 p.m., June 30, in H121 on the SCCC campus. The cost is $65 plus a $10 material fee. This technique involves the use of paper pulp mixed in clay to make possible the construction of previously impossible ceramic forms.
A Raku workshop will be held from 3-9 p.m., July 14 and 28 in H121. The cost is $65 plus a $10 material fee. Raku, taught by Farmer, is a popular process that is more hands-on than most pottery-making techniques. The combination of fire, heat and smoke create unique finishes.
To enroll, contact Business & Industry at 620-629-2650 or reenie.jackson@sccc.edu. To find out more about each workshop, call Farmer at 620-629-2684 or dustin.farmer@sccc.edu.
B&I will offer a concealed carry class from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., July 14 in SW229 A&B. The cost is $100. This is mandatory training for Kansans who desire to seek a permit to carry concealed weapons. All applicants must register for the class in advance by calling 620-629-2650 or 1-800-373-9951, ext. 650.
