The Seward County Tennis Team went into their weekend competition at the Metro State Invitational in Denver as the only junior college program in a field filled with NCAA Division II foes. The Saints came out of the weekend as the only team with five championships, winning titles at #1 women’s singles, #1 men’s singles, #1 women’s doubles, #1 men’s doubles, and #2 men’s singles to wrap up one of the finest weekend’s in program history.

The hard early season work of the only two sophomores on the Seward County roster paid off on Tuesday as the Jayhawk Conference announced that Annelise Sanchez and Morgan Riley have been named the league’s Player of the Week and Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

2013-14 officers for the Hispanic American Leadership Organization at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School are Saul Delgado, president, Liberal; Denisse Dominguez, vice president, Booker, Texas; and Alexis Marino, secretary, Liberal.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School will be offering West Coast Swing and Nightclub 2-Step demonstrations and beginner lessons at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20 in the SW002, the student union basement.
Participants may come have fun and learn the West Coach Swing or Nightclub 2-Step or just come and watch. No partner is needed to learn the basics. Additional dates are Oct. 18, Nov. 1, Nov. 15, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.
Following a 42 inning weekend of baseball, the Seward County Saints Baseball team took some time to relax Sunday evening at Tucker Lake in Liberal, joining up with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for a night of fishing with local youth. A stable of youngsters grabbed their fishing poles and teamed up with the Saints on the dock, catching fish after fish with smiles that lit up the evening sky.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is inviting the public to a come-and-go brunch, 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, in the SCCC/ATS Student Union, 1801 N. Kansas, Liberal.
The cost is $7 per person and includes student entertainment.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School, Liberal, is offering a number of short courses this July.

Kristy Blair of Satanta displays some of the auction items that will be part of the Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Foundation Party Auction, at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Seward County Event Center in Liberal. Tickets are $30 and are available by calling 620-417-1131 or going online to alumni.sccc.edu and clicking on SCCC/ATS Foundation Auction. The money raised this evening helps fund student scholarships.

Join us for an evening of food, beverages, student entertainment and a live and silent auction at the 19th annual Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Foundation Party Auction Saturday, Sept. 21.
This year’s theme is “Party Like it’s 1888” and promises to be a fun-filled evening complete with a wide variety of live and silent auction items. The food will include pulled pork, brisket, sides and desserts.
Tickets for the auction, which are $30 per person, are now on sale. Tickets must be purchased in advance by Thursday, Sept. 19. Tickets may be purchased by credit card by calling 620-417-1131 or online at alumni.sccc.edu/events.

Proceeds from the auction provide scholarships for SCCC/ATS students.

The Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Board of Trustees met Tuesday, Sept. 3 to hear a variety of reports and approve policy changes.
Gayla Myers, director of Student Support Services, presented an overview of the federal SSS/TRiO grant program that is in its fourth year of the five-year grant.

The 2013 Measurement and Pipeline Institute is scheduled for Sept. 10-11 at the Seward County Event Center in Liberal, Kansas.
For 61 years, the combined institute for measurement and pipeline has proven ideal for field operators, technicians, maintenance crews, production supervisors and superintendents. The institute features a variety of lectures, discussions, demonstrations, hands-on sessions and industry exhibits to inform participants about the maintenance and operation of measurement and pipeline equipment. Exhibitors will also display products that are on the cutting edge of technology for the measurement and pipeline industry.
