In a matchup between complete opposites as the smaller and quicker Seward County Saints took on a big and rugged Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa team in the Greenhouse to wrap up the Pizza Hut Classic, it was Seward that got the best of a 72-45 affair to give the Saints their 10th win before the Holiday Break.

The Seward County Women’s Basketball program had made it to the NJCAA National Tournament 5 times before the sport was even a twinkle in the eyes of Trinidad State Junior College fans. The history rich Lady Saints took on the Lady Trojans of Trinidad State in just their second year of existence Saturday night in the Greenhouse and Seward made sure that the visitors would not head back to Colorado with their first NJCAA win in school history as they blew out Trinidad 78-32 to finish up their first half of play in 2011-2012.

Year by year, the second Friday of December is a game that Seward County Lady Saints fans look forward to as they know it is time for the Pizza Hut Classic and they know that it will be a good game when Northeastern comes to town. This year was no different early on as the teams were tied at the half before Seward put things in another gear in the second half to come out with a 71-55 win.

The Quakerdale Eagles 9-11 record coming into Friday night’s game with the Seward County Saints might not have opened a lot of eyes. However, the Eagles had already beaten the NJCAA’s preseason #7 team Trinity Valley and played nose to nose with some of the best junior college teams in the country including State Fair in Hutchinson last weekend. As expected Quakerdale hung with the Saints early on in the Greenhouse in Friday night’s Pizza Hut Classic contest but Seward flexed its muscles in the second half to come away with a runaway 91-48 victory to again prove that they are a force to be recon with in the Jayhawk Conference.

On the heels of back to back top 15 runs at the NJCAA National Tournament, the Seward County Men’s Tennis team has been ranked #8 in the country in the ITA’s 2012 Preseason poll. In the same recently released polls, six Saints have been ranked inside the top 100 individual players in the country led by sophomore Cristiano Mendes who is ranked 12th.

The sterling silver reputation of the Seward County Lady Saints Tennis team has shined through again this preseason as with only 2 returning players with measurable experience from last year, the Lady Saints still found a way to get into the ITA top 20 as they come in at #17 in the preseason poll. Also, 5 different Lady Saints found their name on the top 80 individual players list in the release.
