Beginning Cake Decorating will be offered from 7-10 p.m., Mondays, Oct. 3-Nov. 14, AA193 for $95.
Internet/Spanish will be offered from 9 a.m.-12 noon, Saturday, Oct. 8 in A136 for $30.
Get To Know Your Phone will be offered from 9 a.m.-12 noon, Saturday, Oct. 8 in T116 for $15.
Welding/Beginning & Advanced will be offered from 7-10 p.m., Mondays/Thursdays, Oct. 13-Nov. 3 in TA115 for $95.
 Some courses require textbooks and supplies for an additional cost.

There are nights that you just can’t afford to take off and one of those nights was Wednesday for the Seward County Lady Saints as they squared off with the #18 Barton Lady Cougars in the Greenhouse. The highly anticipated matchup between first place Barton and second place Seward did not live up to expectations however as the visiting Lady Cougars took advantage of late struggles by the Lady Saints in each game to win the match 3-0 and finish the first half of conference play unblemished.

For the second straight week, Seward County sophomore outside hitter Courtney Geesing has been named the Jayhawk West Conference’s Player of the Week. Geesings numbers were again phenomenal for Seward as she averaged 3.68 kills and 2.84 digs per game in five Lady Saints matches.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School is inviting the public to a come-and-go brunch, 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, in the SCCC/ATS Student Union, 1801 N. Kansas, Liberal.
The cost is $6 per person and includes student entertainment.
The Saints Bookstore will also host a book signing “Liberal and Seward County” by Lydia Hook-Gray on Sunday, October 9 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, in conjunction with the Sunday brunch.
It has always been one of those matchups that you can simply throw out the records when you see the two matchup on the schedule. Wednesday night in the Greenhouse the collision between the 11-2 Seward County Lady Saints and the 6-10 Hutchinson Lady Blue Dragons would prove to be more of the same.

Following a freshman season in which he averaged 14 points and 4 steals per game at Western Texas College, new Seward County Saints transfer guard Deverell Biggs has been named to The Sporting News’ “Super Sophs” 2nd Team.

The Kansas Small Business Development Center at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School will present a three-hour workshop, providing information on starting a small business. The free workshop, “Steps to Startup,” will run from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27 in SW239 A&B on the second floor of the Student Services building, 1801 N. Kansas, Liberal.
The workshop will outline the necessary and fundamental steps in starting and operating a small business. Information on grants and financing, licensing, business plans and feasibility are among the topics that will be covered.
Although the workshop is free, pre-registration is required. Information and registration are available by contacting the KSBDC at 620-417-1955 or mike.okane@sccc.edu.
The KSBDC is a partnership program with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Kansas Department of Commerce.


Continuing a solid 2011 campaign, Seward County sophomore outside hitter Courtney Geesing has been named the KJCCC Player of the Week after helping the Lady Saints to a 2-1 record over the past seven days. Geesing averaged 3.90 kills and 2.20 digs per game this week and had 10 or more kills in all three Seward County matches.

The Seward County Lady Saints trip to Concordia to play Cloud County this weekend took around 12 hours round trip. Their match with the Lady T-Birds lasted little over an hour, as Seward returned to their winning form Saturday with a three game sweep over Cloud to improve to 11-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in Jayhawk West Conference play.

The #14 Seward County Lady Saints volleyball team got much more than they bargained for Wednesday night when they traveled to Dodge City to take on a 6-5 Lady Conquistadors team that they had already taken care of twice this season. In front of another ruckus Jayhawk West Conference road crowd, the Lady Saints would fall flat in game one losing 25-19 and would drop game two 25-22. In game three Seward’s fortunes would turn with a 25-21 win but things fell apart late in game four as they lost 25-21 and Dodge City’s celebration was on.

It wasn’t expected to be much of a match and quite frankly it wasn’t as the #13 Seward County Lady Saints steamrolled the 1-15 Garden City Lady Broncbusters in three games Monday night in the Greenhouse in front of a good and spiritful crowd on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.

The Seward County Community College/Area Technical School Board of Trustees met for their regular board meeting Thursday, September 8, following a tour of the Area Technical School.
During the tour, the board previewed the new ventilation system for Welding and the beginning construction of a new classroom and lab addition to house Corrosion Technology. The board viewed the simulated well sight that consist of the well bore, a gas production unit, a 300-barrel stock tank, and a meter run that will be used as a field lab for Corrosion Technology.
The Board formally convened after the tour for their regular meeting, and Tammy Doll, director of development, gave an overview of the SCCC/ATS Foundation Auction scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17. Doll passed around and described a number of items that will be available during the auction. Tickets are $20 and are only available in advance by Wednesday, Sept. 14. Auction items are now listed on Facebook at SCCC/ATS Foundation.

Hitting the road for the first time in Jayhawk West Conference action in the 2011 season, the freshly ranked #13 Seward County Lady Saints traveled to the Beaverdome in Pratt where they took on the defending conference champions in front of a fired up crowd on Wednesday night. Seward quickly quieted the Beaver faithful in game one with a 25-9 win but saw the noise escalate in games two and three where Pratt hung around with Seward until the Lady Saints finally put away both games late 25-23 to complete the sweep.

Going into the Vernon Labor Day Tournament the Seward County Lady Saints knew that they would be tested by four good teams that included 6-0 Tyler, 4-2 North Central Texas, 5-1 Fort Scott, and the #1 ranked team in Division III Brookhaven. After their first loss of the season at the hands of Tyler on Friday, Seward would bounce back to take a thrilling five game match from North Central and then proceeded to drop both Fort Scott and Brookhaven in three game sweeps on Saturday to come out of the weekend 3-1 and 8-1 overall.

In front of a packed Greenhouse crowd on Kids Inc. Night, the Seward County Lady Saints hammered out a big four game win in their home opener against the Colby Lady Trojans thanks in large part to the offense of Courtney Geesing and the defensive work at the net of Bailey McFerren.

Seward County Community College/Area Technical School will offer a Concealed Carry class through Business & Industry from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Saturday, Sept. 17 or Saturday, Oct. 1 in SU214 E/W, 1801 N. Kansas in Liberal.
The cost is $100 per class and is the mandatory training that is required to carry a concealed handgun. Students must bring their driver’s license to class. Lunch is not included.

The fall semester is officially underway here at Seward County Community College/Area Technical School and, while classes start throughout the semester, it appears that our enrollment is up again this year. We have realized an increase in enrollment for the third consecutive year, and this year we are up over 15% in student enrollment from this same time last year.
